Using AI to Improve Energy and Environmental Systems

Public agencies, utilities, and environmental organizations are increasingly exploring how AI can support forecasting, grid operations, infrastructure planning, environmental monitoring, resilience, permitting, and resource management. This session examines where these applications are delivering value in practice, where results remain uncertain, and how organizations can assess whether AI is improving outcomes. Participants will explore real-world uses and practical approaches for evaluating performance, effectiveness, and impact.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Identify practical applications of AI in energy management, environmental monitoring, infrastructure planning, resilience, permitting, and resource management.
- Evaluate where AI is delivering measurable value and where its benefits remain uncertain or unproven.
- Apply practical criteria for assessing whether AI-supported approaches can improve energy and environmental outcomes.
