AI for Impact 
When AI Creates New Risks

AI introduces new ways for information to be exposed, manipulated, or misused, while AI systems themselves can create new security and operational vulnerabilities. Using real-world examples, this session examines how AI is changing the security landscape for government, including risks related to data leakage, prompt injection, public-facing AI tools, shadow AI, and other emerging threats. Participants will learn to recognize how seemingly routine uses of AI can create significant security and operational consequences—and what to watch for in their own work.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Identify common cybersecurity and operational risks associated with the use of AI in government.
- Recognize how risks such as data leakage, prompt injection, and shadow AI can emerge in everyday work.
- Assess how routine decisions about using AI tools can create broader risks for their teams and organizations.
